Description
An ECP (Emergency Contraceptive Pill) is a “morning-after” pill used to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex. It is highly effective when taken as soon as possible, ideally within 72 hours (3 days). It does not terminate an existing pregnancy. [1, 2]
How to Use
- Standard Dosage: Take one 0.75 mg tablet as soon as possible, followed by the second tablet 12 hours later.
- Effectiveness: Reduces pregnancy risk by up to 95% if taken within 24 hours. Effectiveness drops after 72 hours, though it can still offer some protection.
Important Notes
- Not a Regular Contraceptive: ECPs are for emergency use only (such as contraceptive failure or unprotected sex) and should not be used as a primary birth control method
