Mechanism of Action: Levothyroxine sodium is an artificial derivative of the thyroid hormone thyroxine (T4), which controls body metabolism and energy production. Dosage and Administration: Adults less than 50 years should take a dose of 100 micrograms once a day preferably in the morning before breakfast. Dosage adjustment is possible as indicated by tests of thyroid function. Side Effects: Repeated or continuous use can result in headache, tremors, nervousness, insomnia, intolerance to heat, excessive sweating, weight loss, increased appetite, diarrhea, menstrual irregularities, and others.
