The medication Naltrexone hydrochloride 50 mg is an opiate antagonist that is administered to patients suffering from alcohol and opioid dependency to counteract their rewarding effects. It is an orally administered film coated tablet that is the main constituent of many recovery treatment programs. Characteristics of the Drug & DescriptionPhysical Appearance: The physical characteristics of the film-coated tablet vary from manufacturer to manufacturer but generally, it appears to be a yellow, round shaped, film coated biconvex tablet. Sometimes these tablets may have a code number “326” inscribed on them and they are normally scored on the other side for cutting.Active Ingredient: Every tablet contains 50 mg of Naltrexone Hydrochloride which is odorless crystalline substance that is white to off-white in color.Inactive Ingredients: Commonly used inactive ingredients include colloidal silicon dioxide, crospovidone, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, polyethylene glycol, polysorbate 80, synthetic iron oxides (yellow/red) and titanium dioxide.Mechanism of Action: This is an addict free opiate antagonist that works to block the opioid and alcohol rewards by binding itself to the opioid receptors in the brain.Standard Dosage: 50 mg once daily in the evening for the treatment of both alcohol and opiate dependence
