Indications: Treatment and management of generalized tonic-clonic and partial epilepsy attacks (except for absence attacks) and temporary sedation.Mechanism of Action: Works as central nervous system depressant by enhancing the chloride ion channel opening due to GABA activity in neuronal membrane decreasing hyper excitability of nerve impulse transmission.Pharma co kinetics: Easy to absorb in gastrointestinal tract with maximum plasma concentration reaching in about 2 hours and a very long elimination half-life time of about 100 hours in adults.

Precautions: Don’t stop treatment abruptly because of possible seizure due to withdrawal effects – need tapering off under medical supervision. Don’t use alcohol and central nervous system depressants.Contraindications: Drowsiness, sedation, lethargy and possible allergic skin rash.
