Urso 250 mg capsules contain ursodeoxycholic acid or ursodiol, which is a naturally occurring bile acid. The drug is mostly prescribed for dissolving cholesterol gallstones, which are not calcified as well as for the treatment of chronic liver disorders including primary biliary cholangitis. It helps to reduce the production and absorption of cholesterol in the liver and intestines.Important FactsPrimary Uses: Treatment of chronic liver conditions such as PBC and also treatment of cholesterol gallstones (in those patients whose gallbladder is working properly and cannot be operated) and bile reflux gastritis and cholestasis. Dosage: In case of PBC, standard dose in adults is usually 13-15 mg/kg/day in 2 to 4 divided doses with meals. Dose of gallstones depends on the body weight of patient and other factors.Side Effects: Diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain and dizziness may occur as side effects. Contraindications: This drug should not be taken by patients who have calcified gallstones and gallbladder is not working properly.
