Xavor Diu 50/12.5 mg is a combined drug manufactured by Ferozsons Laboratories, mostly used to treat hypertension. This drug includes Losartan Potassium (50 mg), an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB), which causes relaxation of blood vessels, and Hydrochlorothiazide (12.5 mg), a diuretic, that removes excess water and salt from the body.Important characteristics and usagePrimary Purpose: lowers high blood pressure and decreases risks of strokes, heart attacks, and other diseases that may affect kidneys.Mechanism: The combined medication consists of an angiotensin receptor blocker and a diuretic which cause relaxation of blood vessels and decrease fluid retention respectively.Dosage: usually taken once a day, independently from food. It may be prescribed to those patients, who cannot control their blood pressure with one drug (monotherapy).Contraindications: cannot be taken during pregnancy (especially during the second and third trimesters), as well as people with serious kidney or liver diseases or hypersensitivity to sulfa drugs.
